Well done to St Joseph’s Secondary School, Charlestown, who had an excellent 2-14 to 0-6 victory over Roscommon Community College in the Connacht D quarter-final played at Bekan recently. St Joe’s were much the better team for large tracts of the match and dealt competently with the challenge posed by their Roscommon opposition which was truth to tell pretty feeble indeed.
St Joe’s were purposeful and workmanlike in everything they did as they took the sting out of the game long before the final whistle. The Charlestown college has some real quality in their ranks with the likes of Jack Mahon, Ben Conway, Martin and Brendan McCormack and Michael Marren very much to the fore in most of the school’s best play.
A solid performance from St Joe’s as they now pit their wits against Our Lady’s Belmullet in a semi-final clash that the Charlestown school looks to have a great chance of winning. Well done to Manager Brendan Prendergast who got his tactics and team selection spot on for a match they were in control of pretty much from the throw-in.
St Joe’s are looking good to have a real cut at winning the title as they look to emulate their 2016 counterparts who went all the way and won the All-Ireland D title outright.
