The annual John Healy Literary Weekend is scheduled for the 24th – 26th of November, with all events taking place in Charlestown Arts Centre.
Thursday, 24th November
7:30pm – Official Opening Reception
The John Healy Weekend will be officially opened by guest speaker Fr. Micheál McGréil with complimentary wine reception.
8:30pm – Bridging the Infrastructure Deficit in the West of Ireland
Coleman O’Raghallaigh & Frank Dawson will present a WESTERN RAIL CORRIDOR PRESENTATION. This presentation will be followed by an audience questions & answers session.
Friday, 25th November
6:30pm – Visual Art Exhibition
Opening of Cuman Na mBan: Decade of Centenaries Exhibition.
This exhibition focuses on the too often overlooked role that women had to play in the decade of the centenaries. It is impossible not to be inspired by the leadership and determination of these women.
Joseph Mc Cafferty Exhibition.
Charlestown illustrator and artist Joseph Cafferty has brought to life the John Healy seminal book ‘No One Shouted Stop’ to create a series of unique illustrations and images that portray segments and stories from the book.
8:00pm – 1916 Presentation
A unique and informative perspective on the 1916 Rising by guest speakers, Michael MacDonncha & Sean O’Súilleabáin.
Saturday, 26th November
10:00am-1:00pm – Kids Art Workshop with a John Healy Theme!

7:30pm – ‘The Men Who Built Britain – A History of Irish Navvies’
Ultan Cowley, author of ‘The Men Who Built Britain’ will be present for this informative visual presentation. This presentation gives an insight into the history of Irish involvement in the British construction industry.
8:30pm – Premier Public Screening of ‘Emigrants’
Charlestown Arts Centre will present the premier public screening of ‘Emigrants’. The film was written by Gerry Murray, directed by Paddy Henry, produced and filmed by RTÉ in 1986. The film stars multiple local natives of Charlestown as they make their acting debut. The film will be followed by an audience discussion session.
