Huge thanks to Charlestown Sarsfields GAA club for stepping in to host the first round of games between the Irish Masters sides and the AFL Masters Australian Team – 2024 Ireland Tour(mens over 40s, Ladies over 40s, & Mens over 50s) on Saturday March 9th!
It’s fitting that Michael Moyles’ charges will take to the field against the Australian ladies in this historic tie the day after International Women’s Day.
Charlestown will also see the first over 50’s men’s test.
The Australian 40s men’s side, managed by Jason Akermanis, have been training well as they bid to end Ireland’s bid for three Paddy Gaffney Cups in a row. Ireland won the last two series in 2016 and 2019, with Australia winning the series before that back in 2009.
Denn Gfc Cavan, home club of Paddy Gaffney after whom the Men’s over 40s cup has been named since his untimely passing in 2006 shortly after playing for Ireland Masters in Australia that year, will host the second and final tests on Saturday march 16th.
It promises to be a feast of competitive and enjoyable football!
