Ruairi Teatum , son of Marian and the late Seamus Teatum who was a native of Carracastle is undertaking a 600 mile cycle from West London to the West of Ireland (From Home to Home) starting on August 22, 2021. Ruairi, together with five others including his late dad’s grandson and niece will cycle the 600 miles, departing from his home in Hammersmith, West London to his childhood home in Roscommon in 7 days.

On the last day, Ruairi and his five friends will climb Croagh Patrick, in bare feet in memory of his late dad (Seamus) who completed the traditional pilgrimage several times including after he survived leukaemia in 2000. Seamus was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in July 2020 and passed away on September 19, having battled bravely as he showed such grace and dignity in fighting a disease that inflicts such pain and suffering on the human body. Seamus was a fighter and displayed great courage, tenacity and spirit before finally succumbing on that fateful Saturday night in mid-September.

Ruairi was moved by the grace and courage shown by his father but also by the wonderful support they received from some amazing NHS and Marie Curie Carers as it was his dying wish to die at home surrounded by his beloved wife and family. This was Seamus’s third battle with cancer having overcome it successfully twice previously. Pancreatic Cancer is diagnosed notoriously late however, too late for most people to survive it.

Ruairi and his friends are raising money to get that little bit closer to diagnosing that silent killer early enough to give people a fighting chance. The cycle is raising money for Pancreatic Cancer UK and Maggie’s Centre. Ruairi is asking for your support in his honour.
