East Mayo Athletics Club in the medals

The East Mayo Athletics Club had a very enjoyable and successful outing at the Mayo Track and Field Championships held in Claremorris with a number of their athletes winning medals at the many various events and disciplines.

Well done to Liam who won gold in the under-17 100 metres event which was a fantastic achievement and he backed this up by winning bronze in the under-17 200 metres to cap a wonderful day for him personally.

Well done to Cliona Cullen who captured the bronze in the under-14 200m event and clocked a great time in the process and congratulations also to Emily Higgins who also captured the bronze medal in the 60m under-12 event which was another noteworthy feat. All the above now progress to the Connacht finals which take place later in the month.

Congratulations also to the following athletes who also qualified for the Connacht Track and Field finals following top five placing in their respective events with Lucia McDonnell (under-13 80m), Harry Dooney (under-13 80m), Cliona Cullen (under-14 80m and under-14 800m) all securing their passages to the Connacht finals on the back of some impressive showings in their individual races.

Special mention also to Sophie Tiernan, Tegan Denning and Roisin Gately who acquitted themselves very well in their respective races and grades and clocked personal bests in the process which is an indication of the progress they are making as the club continues to go from strength and make its presence felt at the higher echelons of track and field in Mayo and Connacht.
