The East Mayo Athletics Club held their fourth 5k summer run on Saturday, June 26, as the committee and athletes decamped to Kilmovee for another good test of endurance with the route asking some pretty hard questions of all who took part.
Well done to the committee on having everything organised to a tee with the Kilmovee leg lacking nothing in help and support from the locals as they came out in big numbers to help out with stewarding and other logistics to make the event a real winner with a big field taking part and pitting their wits against a course that had several undulating climbs and tests of stamina.
The following were the first five home in race 4: 1st Conor McLoughlin (Moy Velley AC Ballina) 18.03; 2nd Alan Dunne (East Mayo AC) 18.17; 3rd David Tiernan (East Mayo AC) 18.35; 4th Gerry Kirrane (Mayo AC) 18.42; 5th John Fitzmaurice (Roscommon Harriers) 18.43.
For the second week in succession well done to Maura Ginty (Mayo AC) and Paula Donnellan Walsh who were the first two ladies and completed the course in two splendid times which speaks volumes for their fitness and athleticism. It’s onto race 5 which took place on Saturday, July 3, with Ireland West Airport Knock providing the venue of which there will be a full report of in next week’s column.
