CBD Complex news

The CBD Sports Complex Lowpark, Charlestown, is looking for some much needed financial support and assistance to keep its doors open for the foreseeable future.

With the Level 5 restrictions remaining in place the complex has been shut for the best part of 12 months and has no viable means of raising money as all its facilities remains closed to the general public. The complex is a vital amenity in the community when active and open and plays host to many sports and classes with basketball, indoor soccer, yoga, pilates, dance activities as well as the gym providing exercise, recreation not to mention some much needed health, movement and fitness workouts that many people have availed of over the years.

With no access to funding the committee are faced with a hefty public liability insurance bill which needs to be paid in order for the complex to continue as a feasible entity going forward for 2021 and beyond. The community can ill-afford to have such a valuable and essential resource closed and a wider discussion is, perhaps, needed on how to run the building and make the best use of the many fine facilities it possesses as the project was build on the back of many years of fundraising and graft by some visionaries and innovators who would be saddened to see the place fall into a state of disrepair.

A number of people have expressed an interest in having a discussion at the very least, in forming some sort of a committee to explore its potential but this needs to happen soon as time is ticking with heads needing to come together to draw up some sort of a plan that is sustainable for its short term survival.
