Rugby wonder girl Beibhinn Parsons, recently crowned Guinness Rugby Writers Women’s Player of the Year for the 2019/2020 season comes from good Charlestown stock as she is the daughter of Vincent Parsons, a native of Gowel, Charlestown, who is a consultant doctor in the Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway.
Beibhinn burst onto the scene in tremendous fashion in 2020 making her senior International debut for the Irish Women’s International Rugby team in the International Women’s Six Nations Championship. She had a terrific breakthrough season scoring three tries from her wing position and lighting up the championship with some memorable displays which catapulted her onto the international stage and all this while doing her leaving certificate which was some achievement and an indication of her prodigious talent.
Beibhinn’s parents Vincent and Evelyn were very supportive and backed her all the way as she made a huge impression on the Irish squad with her maturity, focus and intensity marking her down as a special talent. Beibhinn is keeping her feet firmly on the ground however as she is very much aware that she’ll be a marked lady in the 2021 campaign which has been pushed back until later in the year. Her dad Vincent has never lost touch with his roots and remains a regular visitor to the Gowel area where he has maintained many strong links and friendships. Vincent is a huge Mayo supporter and has followed the red and green through the good times and the bad and has followed the county all over the country in their elusive quest to land Sam Maguire.
Beibhinn plays with great flair and freedom and will be one of Ireland’s key performers as they look to back up some promising displays in last year’s campaign as they get ready to pit their wits against the England’s and France’s of this world. We wish Beibhinn well and look forward to some more scintillating displays in the green jersey as she looks to back up last year’s special season.
