The famous journalist, John Healy, a native of Charlestown, wrote a book based on the economic and social decline of rural life in the West of Ireland.
In 1968, “No One Shouted Stop” (Death Of An Irish Village) was published. The book illustrated the difficulties faced in a time of widespread poverty and mass emigration and was highly critical of government policies towards rural areas such as Charlestown.
The John Healy Weekend is now an annual event in Charlestown.
Would you like to get involved in the John Healy Weekend this year? If so, a meeting will take place in Charlestown Arts Centre to discuss the upcoming festival.
The meeting will take place on Friday, 21st October from 8pm.
All are welcome to attend!
