Airport Fundraiser Lands Over €30,000 For Charity

The continuous fundraising efforts of the staff at Ireland West Airport Knock generated €30,550 for the airport’s three nominated charities for 2016. The airport’s chosen charities for 2016 were Cancer Care West, MS Ireland and Pieta House.

The fundraising campaign dates back to late 2015. The airport’s staff voted to select three Irish charities for the inaugural Ireland West Airport Charity Of The Year Programme for 2016.

Fundraising events took place over the course of 2016. The most successful of these events was the Bank of Ireland 5km Runway Run. This greatly anticipated Run seen more than 1,500 people take to the airport’s runway to complete a 5km charity run. This was the first time in the airport’s 30 year history, that the runway was open to the public for such an event. In addition, the airport hosted a gala night to mark the 30th anniversary of its official opening. This event was enjoyed by 500 guests. Both events generated significant funds, all of which went towards the fundraising efforts for the three charities.

Speaking at the cheque presentation, Joe Gilmore, managing director, Ireland West Airport said: “2016 was a memorable year at the airport as we celebrated the 30th anniversary of our official opening. It was also the first year of our charities of the year initiative and we are delighted to be presenting a cheque to three charities for over €30,000 which will support the fantastic work being done by these organisations. This new initiative is part of the ongoing support and social responsibility activities that help the airport build bridges with the local community and we look forward to a successful year of fundraising with three new charities in 2017.”

The amount which was raised by the airport’s staff was an astounding figure and a credit to all who were involved in this initiative.

We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge this great achievement and to wish them every success with their future fundraising activities.

Well Done!
